"We really should treat people like plants, and not like lightswitches."
"Now what does that mean?"
"Well, we seem to treat people like lightswitches. We turn them on, we turn them off.
We expect instant compliance when we turn to them. We expect a certain reaction every time. Any different reaction is considered a failure. If something happens that we don't like or don't expect, we go and fix the wiring right away, or we go get another bulb and throw the old one away."
"A plant though, we treat with tender care, especially when it is just growing. We note every tiny change and are happy with every small advancement. You are never sure exactly how fast or slow change will happen"
"People aren't like lightswitches where we have to have only one reaction. They are like plants and can't go hardly a day without water, and you exactly never know what form its growth will take"
