A Lament for Exile

I never meant to stay away for so long.
Like so many immigrants,
who only mean to study, or work, and then go back...
life happened

And I am still here.

Sometimes people (some well-meaning, some just arrogant)
pursue the subject and want to know why I still just have my green resident's card.

The problem is, I have deep ideological differences
with what I see around me.

As near as I can figure,
the chief responsibility of a US citizen is
to keep the Mexicans out
and to make sure the poor don't go to the doctor.

A 4th of July note:
Nevada has no controls on fireworks,
and there is nothing so reassuring as industrial level fireworks in a residential area
on the day
of greatest beer consumption.
Nothing so charming as children with explosives....
