It has been my observation over the years, in my own and in other families, that:
When the children are little, they need their mother.
They will actually "fail to thrive" when separated from their mothers.
I remember the speaker in conference who said that he did not remember his mother's views on education or about current events, but knew that she loved him.
But as the children become adults they need their fathers. they want to know his views and ideas, they want to copy his mannerisms and stories and yearn for his company.
