Christmas In Bogota

Even the poor in Bogota enjoy the season at Christmas because the city is beautiful, the parks are filled with lights, the mountain is decorated and there are free events from concerts to fireworks all through the month. You can walk to all these events, the traffic makes it preferable to walk anyway.

We love to walk to this park, buy an aromatica, look at the nacimientos, and enjoy the evenings.

Once a year the city closes some important through-streets for "Night Ciclovia." People sell corn on a stick, buskers (is that a Canadian word?) play music on the side walks and all the Christmas lights make it a real party. We walk down the middle of the street among sellers of whistles and cotton candy, kids on riding toys, bicycles of all kinds and dogs. We stopped and danced once.

I know other cities have events, but Bogota brings it right to the reach of everyone. I will miss it.

Thanks to Amy for the great pictures
