We ate out for breakfast the other day, arriving just as the doors opened at 6 am.
The lady who unlocked the door was shooing away a man sleeping just beside the door.
She apologized profusely for our inconvenience as we came in the restaurant.
"I called the non-emergency number, they'll take care of it."
A few more customers came in; it seemed business people liked this place. And behind us sat some lawyers, and their conversation included talk about lawyers who "string-out a job to maximize income."

I thought:
To the guy who was stopped at the door
and not allowed in
I might have given a dollar,
maybe bought him breakfast,
costing me $1- $8.
maybe.
Those suited-up lawyers came in the door,
and surely will cost all of us
hundreds and hundreds.
for sure.
