Say What?
When students see that I will explain and answer their questions, they ask a lot of them. So this is the question I heard the other day. Apparently, it was the conclusion the student drew after half-listening in history class. Maybe the teacher, after watching too much TV weather, said "the winds came down out of Canada" (all bad weather seems to come down out of Canada)
With Google in everyone's hand-held device and on smartphones, why doesn't anyone look for answers?
The short, middle-school answer is: Poor farming practices, combined with extended drought, dried up so much topsoil that when the wind blew, it lifted several inches right off the surface of the earth and blew it all around. The dustbowl affected the Canadian prairies as much as the US.
